About Us

Crafted on this farm for over 25 years, our wines are made on-site and shaped by local grapes and the wonderful community that surrounds us.

WHO WE ARE

The

Owners

The Dietrich family is thrilled to be the new stewards of Manatawny Creek Winery. We can’t wait to meet you!

Matt Dietrich — former US Army Ranger, now a cybersecurity specialist — grew up on his family’s organic farm just down the road in Oley. Bekah, Matt’s wife, is an ICU nurse specializing in cardiac care, and she brings that same attentive spirit to the way the family shows up for guests and the community.

You’ll often see Matt’s parents and part-owners, Mike and Barb, around the winery. Much of the day-to-day at the winery is guided by Mike, Director of Operations, who keeps things running and is often hands-on around the property. Barb brings her vast knowledge of organic farming to managing all the vineyards in her role as Director of Agriculture. You may even see Matt’s siblings from time to time!

HOW

it

Started

We are proud to honor the foundation built by the Levengood family over the past 25+ years.

Darvin Levengood came to winemaking through curiosity and craft. While working as a chemical engineer, he became an enthusiastic home winemaker, often keeping a few carboys bubbling away in the basement. His wife, Mary, was his first taste-tester, and over time their children, Dave and Joanne, caught the wine bug too.

In 1994, Joanne left her career as an environmental engineer and moved to California to study winemaking at University of California, Davis, gaining hands-on experience at several wineries. She returned to the family farm in 1997 and founded Manatawny Creek Winery.

About

the

WINE

Each and every wine is still made right here at the winery in Douglasville, PA.

We grow about half of our grapes and source the rest close to home—mainly from Berks County and surrounding counties including Lehigh County, York County, Chester County, and Lancaster County.

We produce about 10,000 gallons (4,200 cases) each year.

Most bottles are sold directly from our tasting room, with a small amount available at area restaurants. We don’t distribute through retail stores, but we can ship to consumers in Pennsylvania. If you’re visiting from out of state, you can ship wine home through VinoShipper on our website.

VINE BY VINE

the

Vineyards

We farm 10 acres of vines across three separate vineyards at Manatawny Creek Winery.

Vineyard 1  was planted 1991 and covers about 5 acres of hybrid grapes: crosses between vinifera varieties (like Chardonnay and Cabernet) and Native American varieties (like Niagara and Concord).

The six grapes planted here are Foch, Chancellor, Steuben, Cayuga White, Vidal Blanc, and Seyval Blanc

Vineyard 2 is also about 5 acres. Planted 1998, it sits on the hill behind the winery and is primarily home to vinifera, including Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Lemberger, and Syrah.
